HSE University and Children’s Oncology Centre Partner to Advance Scientific Research and Practice

HSE University and the Dmitry Rogachev National Medical Research Centre of Pediatric Hematology, Oncology and Immunology have signed an agreement on scientific and practical cooperation. The document was signed by Nikita Anisimov, HSE University Rector, and Nikolay Grachev, Director General of the Centre.

The agreement allows for the consolidation and further development of the partnership previously established between HSE University and Dmitry Rogachev Centre. It is expected that the most advanced medical technologies developed with the involvement of specialists from HSE University’s Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology will continue to be effectively implemented in the treatment of complex oncological cases in children.

‘HSE University is a large and multidisciplinary institution that is actively developing new technologies, including those in the field of natural sciences. The Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology, headed by Alexander Tonevitsky, plays a significant role in this endeavour and contributes greatly to the work of HSE University as a research centre. We aim not only to conduct fundamental research but also to apply it to real-world problems. As Rector, my main goal is to remove any barriers hindering the implementation of our research and to support the efforts of important institutions like the Dmitry Rogachev National Medical Research Centre of Pediatric Hematology, Oncology and Immunology. I am confident that our collaboration will help us to overcome this challenge,’ said Nikita Anisimov.

‘Our patients are primarily children who suffer from oncological and haematological diseases. Fortunately, modern medicine offers a wide range of treatments with the possibility of cure. However, for some patients, their diagnosis limits the treatment options available, while there is very little time for making the right decision. In these cases, so-called translational models play an important role in personalising treatment for these complex patients. These models help us quickly and accurately diagnose the molecular makeup of a tumour and develop several treatment options simultaneously, but this requires highly specialised equipment and skilled specialists. We have been collaborating successfully with experts from HSE University’s Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology for many years. We hope that this agreement will take our cooperation to the next level, and the cutting-edge technologies developed by HSE University will be widely applied in the treatment of oncological diseases,’ commented Nikolay Grachev.

The Dmitry Rogachev National Medical Research Centre of Pediatric Hematology, Oncology and Immunology is a leading Russian research centre combining advanced technologies and scientific developments with many years of experience in treating severe diseases in children aged seven days to 18 years. The centre is a key scientific, educational, and clinical institution of Russia: it receives up to 1,700 patients annually, performs around 180 transplants and conducts multicentre research, achieving excellent outcomes. For example, today, more than 85% of children with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia recover completely.
